At Axiom Care, we take pride in the incredible journeys of our team members, especially those who have turned their lives around and now dedicate themselves to helping others do the same.

Sandy Radley, a counselor at our Detox and Observation/Stabilization programs in Apache Junction, embodies this spirit of transformation and dedication.

A Journey of Redemption and Purpose

Sandy’s story is one of resilience and determination. After being released from prison on April 10, 2023, she decided to make a profound change. “I’m an addict myself and want to help other addicts in their journey to recovery,” she says, reflecting on her motivation.

During her time in prison, Sandy didn’t waste a moment. She pursued an education to become an alcohol and substance use disorder counselor, achieving her level 1 certification. This decision marked a significant turning point in her life. Sandy’s history with addiction and her involvement with the justice system—spanning nearly 30 years and including 12 years behind bars—culminated in a commitment to sobriety on June 21, 2020. Despite the availability of drugs in prison, she chose the path to recovery.

Finding Purpose in Helping Others

For Sandy, her work at Axiom Care is more than just a job; it’s a mission. “If I can save just one person, my job is done,” she says. “Everything I’ve been through hasn’t been for nothing if I can just save one other addict.” This deep sense of purpose drives her every day.

Sandy’s desire to help others stems from her personal journey. “I want to give back what was so freely given to me, which is my life back,” she explains. Her firsthand experience with addiction and recovery gives her a unique ability to connect with and support those she counsels.

Why Axiom Care?

Sandy chose Axiom Care because of the supportive, family-like environment. “I knew some wonderful staff who really cared about people. It’s really a family. They care about their clients and each other,” she says. This nurturing atmosphere is a key reason why the majority of patients opt for continued treatment after completing our detox or observation/stabilization program.

A Message to Those Struggling with Addiction

Sandy offers these words of encouragement to anyone who is justice-involved and struggling with addiction: “Don’t give up. Don’t beat yourself up. Reach out and ask for help. It’s definitely never too late.” She understands the challenges and emphasizes that seeking help is the most crucial step. “People say recovery is too hard,” she acknowledges, but counters, “Once you put your mind to it, it’s very possible.”

Living Proof of Recovery

Today, Sandy enjoys a fulfilling life with her children and grandchildren, her boyfriend, and the peace of mind that comes with sobriety. “I don’t have to wake up in the morning and look over my shoulder when doing my errands. I am not searching for dope or doing the next hustle to get money. Most of all, I get to help people.”

Sandy’s journey underscores the transformative power of recovery and the impact dedicated professionals like her can have on those struggling with addiction. Her story is a testament to Axiom Care’s mission of supporting every individual’s journey to recovery, providing hope, and fostering a supportive community.

If you or a loved one is struggling with addiction, remember Sandy’s words: “The hardest thing to do is to walk into a meeting or call to get help. But once you make the decision to do that, every day gets better and better.” At Axiom Care, we are here to support you every step of the way. Give us a call to get started on your journey today.
